Angel for the Choir

Kate was a woman with the gentlest soul you’d meet
She would just stop to say hi to a stranger on the street
I met her for the first time in the northern New England hills
She was singing a song so nice to hear even the wind stood still

Kate sang of love she sang of desires
And like us all she was dancing on high wires
The Lord took her life while she was full of fire
Did he really need another angel for the choir?

I’d listen to her songs in the morning they’d brighten up my day
Her music had a magic that would melt my blues away
I got to know her as a friend and her songs like my own
But had to hang my head the night I heard she was gone

(chorus)

Now there’s a silence the Novocaine’s set in
A red-tailed hawk sets sail for the horizon
Leaving me with memories of those times she shared with me
And my heart left broken and hers much too soon set free

(chorus)
