Going Back
Days were sometimes warmer evenings sometimes cool
Mom was at home when I got back from school
When a quarter was allowance for the chores I had to do
Spent it at the penny candy store that I went to
A ’57 Chevy was a dream car to some
The worse you could do in school was flunk a test or chew gum
getting ice cream off the ice cream truck or jumping on the bed
playing cowboys and Indians pretending I was dead
Memories of those days just hang on the rack
I wish there was a way of going back
Kool-aid the drink of summer a million mosquito bites
Jumping in a pile of racked up leaves that was the life
Then there were the skateboards, pogo sticks and hulu hoops
And if I fell I sometimes cried or maybe just say oops
Catching fireflies could occupy an entire night
Remember good night kisses with the covers pulled up tight
Running til I was out of breath or laughing til my stomach hurt
Playing with my dog who always stayed alert
(chorus)
Going steady with a girl remember my first crush
Never know what to say and knees turn to mush
Getting windshields cleaned and oil checked with a smile for free
Times like that are sure now just a part of history
Never knew where the keys were you never locked the door
The milkman would deliver and check if you needed more
When stuff came from the stores without safety caps or seals
You wouldn’t think about it cause worry you wouldn’t feel
(chorus)
Time it moves too fast now at least it does for me
Memories are what we get for what used to be
Days would last forever you really had it made
Never knowing when the child in you begins to fade
(chorus)
