Notes From the CD “One Lifetime’s Not Enough”

Sliding on the 12

An instrumental track dedicated to Leo Kottke. He became a big influence on my slide guitar playing starting back in 1972. This song became the theme song for a local TV show in Northern California called“Snapshots.”

I Just Can’t be Me (Without You)

A love song for my wife Nancy. She has been my rock for over 20 years, supporting my music all the way.

One Lifetime’s Not Enough

Another love song for those lucky enough to find their soul-mate.

Noonmark

A mountain I used to climb in the Adirondacks in NY State.  Watching the sunrise from up top was always a great way to start the day.

Kentucky’s Tune

One of the many folks I met while being a street-singer in Boston, MA back in the early 1970’s.

Stories to Tell

In every country in the world except the USA, the elders are considered wise and revered citizens. Here, one seems to be of no more use when they reach a certain age. That’s the theme for this song.

Butterfly Hearts

While walking one day in Pennsylvania, I came across a butterfly going around in circles. Wondering what it was doing, I looked down and found another one dead on the ground. It was at that time when I learned that this gentle species had love and sadness in its heart, just like us. It kept circling for the twenty minutes I was there. It’s a sad day when butterflies cry.

Rambling Blues

This one was written by the legendary bluesman Robert Johnson. The original title is Rambling on my Mind. I close out a lot of my shows with this one.

Angel for the Choir

This one is for Kate Wolf. She was the first folksinger I met when I moved out to Northern California. We stayed friends and I watched her stardom rise until she passed away from Leukemia in the late 80’s.Her music is still available today and I recommend anyone to purchase a CD. She was a beautiful lady.

Walking into Moonlight

Another instrumental. Something I like to do when I get the chance. The title seemed appropriate.

For a Canadian Friend

Met this girl at a party, fell in love, went home and wrote a song for her. Went to play it for her the next day and found she had already flown back to Canada. Never got her last name. Maybe she’ll hear it one day through the Canadian airwaves. Another requested favorite.

Somebody’s Bound to get the Blues

The 6 o’clock news is always so depressing . Bad luck is always floating in the air. One never knows where it will land, but the news does a great job on showing us some of the people that do get it.

I’m Just Getting Older

A long time ago after a relationship breakup, I found myself spending the night in an Indiana rest stop. Bucket seats made it too uncomfortable to sleep in the car, so this song was born at 3 am in the morning with the wind howling and also something in the nearby woods.

One for Chet

A song for my good friend Chet Hamammoto. He loved life and telling jokes. I miss his laughter. It’s always the good ones who pass over first. After his memorial service, I went home and composed this one with the water running.
